Miah, just found out about your passing, mi amigo. It was great hanging out with you at the salsa club in Tokyo following the World Sumo Championships we had competed in back in 1994. It was an honor for me to meet and spend time with one of New Zealand and the Maori people's great sportsmen. You were all class then, and from what I've read, a great man in so many ways in your homeland.

Such sad new has taken time to reach us. Some people make an unforgettable impression on our lives. You were one of those special people. In 1982 the people of Wales met you and your Team mates and 37 years later and many miles away you are remembered as a man of two sides - one fierce and one kind and gentle. Respect and friendship dear friend - never forgotten.

An amazing player for Waikato. So hard on the field. But a great influence off the field for so many young fellas that represented this great Waikato erea. Was an amazing person with so much inspiration and had so much mana. Waikato has lost a great man. Will never forget him. Rest well Miah.

Kua hinga te ttara i Te Waonui a Tne.

I am saddened to learn today of Miah's passing. So sad. Me and my whanau send our condolences to the whanau pani.

My first meeting with Miah was at the old gun club where Melville RFC used to have the post match 'get-together'. Peter Stewart introduced me to Miah who was sitting on an ABC beer crate. Putting his glass down, turning his face towards me asked 'What position do you play?' My answer 'Loose forward'. Miah's response 'Don't get in my way at training!' And so it was that we had a great relationship both on and off the field.
