Nancy WHATARAU Obituary

WHATARAU, Nancy Joan (Joan) It is with sadness that the family of Joan Whatarau, wife of the late Eddie Whatarau, announce her passing at the family home in Rotorua on Saturday 26th July 2025 surrounded by her whānau. Joan embraced every experience that came her way, truly living life to its fullest and touching countless lives both locally and across the world. She was a traveller, a hiker, an avid reader, a gardener, a baker and an educator. She will always be remembered by many of her former students as a dedicated and caring teacher- quite remarkable for someone who initially aspired to be a farmer! Joan's legacy lives on in her great grandchildren Te Ataroa, Pareraukawa, Maisa and Maea, her grandsons Kiwa and Matariki, her children Moana, Keriana and Taina and the extended whānau of Trysh, Hayley, Jesi and Greg. We ask that any donations be made to Hospice Rotorua. A private cremation will be held for Joan at the Rotorua Crematorium.
