Fortunate enough to have been coached by Muru at Union rugby club in Dunedin. Awesome coach but an even more outstanding person. Took us under his wing and treated us all like family and was instrumental in helping us mature as men. My sincere condolences to his family.

E te whanau, Kia ora. Muri taught me when I was at St John´s/Trinity Theological College in the mid 1980´s. He was a wise leader who reached across cultural differences with ease. Students felt safe in his care . I am deeply saddened by your loss, and will always be grateful that you shared him with me. Arohanui, John Grant (retired Methodist minister).

Lorraine and family, We are remembering our days together in Dunedin, your friendship and the help you gave me as minister to Maori in Otago and Southland. I was a learner and Muru a good and kind teacher. We´re still in the UK and unable to be with you, but we remember you in our prayers, Arohanui,
