Kay and family. So sorry of the passing of Murray. The memories I have as a kid with Murray coming to visit dad (Philip de la Perrelle) in Havelock North stay with me forever ... with the Police Dogs in the wagon! My memories of them was of a special friendship. Lots of laughter with his story telling. That smile of his is infectious! Was so pleased to be able to attend the funeral today on behalf of dad.
Sending you all much love and hugs for your loss. Kind regards. Kris

In memory of my childhood friend Murray. We shared the most wonderful times as young boys growing up together in Waipiro Bay. Our days were blissful as we had a shared love of the outdoors. Free to roam the surrounding hills and beaches, our days were not dictated to by a clock, but by the sun and the tides. We had the priceless luxury of freedom to roam on foot or horseback through the surrounding area we called home. Matahu Reef, Aku Aku, Waikawa, and Tawhiti were we where gathered Kaimoana and lit a fire and ate part of our gatherings.
Many a time I enjoyed lunchtime at the Morrissey home, where Murray´s mother would serve up delicious soft white bread sandwiches. When Murray came to our home he would enjoy my mother´s rewena bread, fried bread and wagon wheel. It never occurred to us, that we came from two different cultural backgrounds.
School days were full of fun and enjoyment from sporting activities. Mainly schoolboy rugby.
I last saw Murray when we were young teenagers. As the years have flown by I had often hoped to meet up with him again. A newspaper article once had a mention of him as a police dog handler. I am pleased he had a wonderful career in the Police Force as he had a love of dogs from an early age. Achieving a NZ honour was an achievement to be proud of.
Old age, now 80, gives me the luxury of wonderful memories of two young boys who were not constrained in a friendship that was full of adventure and laughter, spent in an idyllic surrounding on the East Coast of NZ, Waipiro Bay.

Hello the Morrissey Family,
I have the fondest memories of Murray, not only standing behind the counter at a Westlake Girls High Rowing camp with his pinny on but also being the quick-witted, father who had the answer to every question posed to him as my manager of the Westlake Girls Rowing eight. The joy, the humour, and the sacrifice he brought to us all were second to none. Murray will be sorely missed by family, friends, and his ex-colleagues from his Policing days. Enjoy, absorb, and laugh at those special moments that he created. He will be remembered. Malcolm McIntyre Coach, policeman, and friend.

He always had a kind greeting, often saying "where is it ?", referring to a particular award. I liked him, and he devoted his life to serving the community.
