HOLT, Molly Jill. Born on 28 October 1938 at Kawakawa Te Tai Tokerau to Marjorie and Harold Martin. Beloved wife of Jim Holt. Beloved sister of John, Dossie, Florence, Alison, and Susan. Beloved mother of Daniel and Rachel. Cherished grandmother of Alex and aunty of many nieces and nephews in Aotearoa and overseas. Dear friend of many. A life lived with bravery, curiosity, energy, flowers, and a smoker for out-of-this-world salmon. A funeral will be held on Saturday 22 November at 1:30pm at the Maclaurin Chapel, 188 Princes Street, to be followed by refreshments. Please bring a flower for Jill. State of Grace 0800 764 722

Jill was my first cousin, a couple of years younger. Our dad and her Mum were close siblings and even with wartime petrol rationing we would get occasionally to the Martin farm in Tuapai, where we swam naked in the river and picked the fruit, and they would manage to get to our bach at Paihia. Happy days, followed by a distinguished academic career. But far too much tragedy for one person to bear in later years. A wahine toa to survive it at all. Remember her, e te whanau.
