Thinking of you and your family Roz at this time of loss. A memory I have of Rafiq is up high in the cherry tree at Mahurangi, pruning.

Great leader and mentor. Rafiq oversaw medical registrar training in his earlier senior career and remained dedicated and compassionate throughout his working life. Enjoyed working with him sharing ward responsibilities in early SMO career. RIP Rafiq and condolences Ros and family.

This is such sad news. My condolences to you Roz, your children and grandchildren.

Rafique was such an outstanding doctor teacher mentor and colleague.

I was his Trainee Intern and House Officer in the early 1980s on ward 8 at Middlemore Hospital. In those days he was a general physician, teamed up with Ian Simpson with Neil Anderson and Andy Veale as their registrars.

It was clear to all of us that no matter where we were, on a ward round, at a grand round at Middlemore or at Auckland Hospital, Rafique was the smartest person in the room.

I´ve known him, worked alongside him and been his patient for over forty years. He had wicked sense of humour and a beautiful smile and I´m shocked and deeply saddened that he has died so close to his retirement.

Ema and I are away so will not be able to come to his farewell but we will be thinking of him and you all. Much love David Galler

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un
"Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return."
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:156)

Dear Family of Dr. Ali Mohamed Rafiq,

With a heavy heart, I offer my deepest condolences on the passing of Dr. Ali Mohamed Rafiq. May Allah (SWT) envelop him in His infinite mercy and grant you strength and patience during this difficult time.

Dr. Rafiq was a man of great character-kind, compassionate, and deeply devoted to his family. I am especially grateful for the unwavering love and support he always showed to his close relatives, including my dear mother, his elder sister. He stood by them selflessly and helped in every way he could. His generosity and sense of responsibility were a reflection of his noble heart and deep faith.

"Whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer - We will surely grant them a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do."
(Surah An-Nahl 16:97)

May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him the highest station in Jannatul Firdaus. May his grave be a garden from the gardens of Paradise, filled with light, peace, and mercy.

Please know that our prayers are with you and the entire family. May Allah grant you all patience (sabr) and unite us with our loved ones in the eternal hereafter.

With heartfelt sympathy and duas,

Mohammed Sahim and family

A big shock to hear of Rafiq's passing. An outstanding, dedicated, very talented, skilled and distinguished gastroenterologist and hepatobiliary physician of the highest calibre. He was a giant in his specialist field. I have known Rafiq for over 30 years and he took care of me over those number of years. I am indebted to him for his skill and expertise. A thorough fine gentleman and exceptional brilliant physician with remarkable genius.
Thank you Rafiq for the many lives you have touched and saved. Surely you will be welcomed in heaven with these words, "well done good and faithful servant, come and receive the crown of righteousness you deserve" You have served humanity exceptionally well. May the God of comfort , give you all peace and love in the days to come and beautiful memories of Rafiq.

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we offer our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr Mohammed Rafiq Ali.

He was a man of great dignity, wisdom, and compassion - someone who touched the lives of so many through his kindness and quiet strength. What he did for our family will never be forgotten. His love, support, and generosity - especially towards my mother, his beloved sister - will remain in our hearts forever. His legacy lives on not just through his children and grandchildren, but through the lives he helped shape and the countless hearts he uplifted.
