The Robes of Heaven
When the end approached
like a train smashing through a tunnel
except the light at the other end
was that eternal glow of glory,
you had no great plans to jump out of a plane,
or go overseas for the last time.
No, it was a fishing trip with your mates,
cauliflower soup made with cream,
egg sandwiches with mayo and pepper,
crusts removed,
Sooty draped across your lap,
cuddles with Jade, driving Chris's car.

When my hugs revealed a sharp shoulder,
I knew you had started to put on
the robes of Heaven.
We tucked those cherished family times
into our memory sleeves,
and I prayed that you would find your peace
as I found my own for you.

Then the day came when there was
no more good news.
We treasured precious times of silence
and recollections,
your birthday celebration,
blowing out the candles.
You waited for Dion.
Leaving the house for the last time
you made sure the walls weren't marked;
unlike the hearts of those
who knew you, and who loved you.

For you, dying was just a different way of living.
for us, it was being left behind.

Mike was a neighbour for around 15 years - always will remember that mischievous sense of humour and friendship and all those street parties :-) RIP Mike - you will be remembered.

A song involving the moon, eye and pie will always bring back fond memories of you Michael. Fishing trips with Dean's ballads reverberating across the ocean. Weekly squash games - always a welcome event as was the post refreshment session where the odd beer or wine went down well whilst discussing the latest sporting, news and current events (even the odd cooking tips!).
Go well my friend - you will be missed.

Mike was an amazing friendly and witty, dog walking mate. I loved the deep and meaningful discussions we shared walking Browns Bay beach or the park with Sooty and Nalah. Condolences to Karen and families. A huge loss for the Browns Bay community too. RIP mate. Penny

Karen, our heart felt love and sympathy goes to you and the family at this terribly sad time for you all. Am sorry I cant be there today but our thoughts are with you. Such fond memories we have and will remember of Mike from and for many years.

SADLER, Michael Charles (Mike) Born 03-10-1949. Dad passed away peacefully on Friday night 16-10-2015. Father to Gene & Dion, Grandfather to Jade, Father-in-law to Dion's wife Nicole and her sister Toni. Will be sadly missed and remembered with love. A service will be held at Dil's Funeral Services, 185 Schnapper Rock Road, 12:30pm on Wed 21/10/2015.
