As a youngster Mike was a busy passionate sporting lad, loved his soccer and surfing, and music. Mike loved fun and he loved his family and his gang of friends. We always felt special with Mike. A cruel illness struck young Mike and never left him. As we grew up, found our way in the world, started jobs, raised families, chased our dreams, that gift of feeling special was treasured and never lost. Mike loved us to the end, and we loved Mike. As Mike said in his final days: "It doesn't get better than that."

Mike was always passionate about music, and for someone like myself that occasionally got bogged down in the business of running a music store, he was inspirational. He was always looking for new music that inspired him and was fiercely supportive of New Zealand artists that had the creative spark he looked for. He was a great friend who was somehow always more interested in my health than his own, and I and my wife Sonya will miss him greatly. Rest in peace buddy.
