My name is Nicolas d'Avout d'Auerstaedt.Josie and Mickael hosted me for 4 months in their house in Auckland. They were like parents to me. Mickael was, as we say in France "quelqu'un de bien"
Josie I hope you will read this little note. I kiss you very very strongly and I think of you all, the whole family.

A worm hole of memories led me to find this notice this morning.
Michael was Uncle Mick to me and my children, an honorary title bestowed on the husband of my mothers school and travelling friend. He and Auntie Josie have for many years kept in regular contact with me helping to keep the memories of my mother alive, and marking the passage of time. I have many memories of Mick and Josie visiting us in Wellington and of them making us so very welcome in Auckland, the us' not just with my mother Rewa but also in later years with my husband and children.
Uncle Mick was a man of great intelligence, interested in others, he had had a love of sport, and as was always evident, a love of his wife and family.
He was a man of God.
Our deepest condolences to his family.
May the Angels lead him into Paradise, and May he Rest In Peace.
With many loving memories, from Helen De Gregorio (née Cox) and family.

I knew this wonderful gentleman for a short time but he taught me about true love and true faith. I will miss your friendship and our chats. Now at home with our Lord.

McCARTHY, Michael David. Born October 8, 1936. Passed away on March 29, 2020, aged 84. Much loved husband of Josie, father of Therese, Greg, Chris, Francelle and Michael, and grandfather to Josh, Lucy, Christopher, Cole and Harriett.
