MICHAEL MAHONEY Obituary

MICHAEL MAHONEY Michael Francis Mahoney passed away in the early hours of December 30, 2016. A true renaissance man, Michael was a photographer, gourmet cook and a musical connoisseur (able to hum an aria on cue) in addition to being a dedicated husband, father and "Grumpa". Michael knew a lot about everything and enjoyed bringing you into his various worlds. A loyal and highly valued employee, he spent thirty-seven years in sales at Del Equipment. His sonorous, friendly voice and extensive knowledge of Del and their customers made him the company's go-to guy. Michael was also a volunteer at the Toronto Zoo and perhaps it was there that his various talents and curiosity were fully realized. A weekend volunteer he loved talking to the Zoo's visitors providing colourful stories and information about the various animals. But it was Michael's pictures of the Zoo's inhabitants that expressed his photographic creativity and provided much joy and pleasure to those lucky enough to see the gems he regularly posted. Born in Toronto, he lived his entire life there. He will be greatly missed by Marion, his loving wife of forty-six years, his son Matthew and daughter-in- law Lennart, as well as his cherished grandchildren Russell, Abbey and Delilah. Michael will be remembered by his best friend and photo buddy Tim Thorington, his sisters Mary (Peter), Catherine (Rick), Therese and Bernadette, his brothers John (Jean), Carl (Robin), Peter (Diane), Paul (Sandy), Martin (Sheena) and Frank and his many nieces and nephews, who are all deeply saddened and will miss him. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Michael's life will be announced in the coming weeks. Donations to the Toronto Zoo may be made in Michael's memory.

I enjoyed working with Mike.

To a lot of our customers he was the "Voice of DEL". His Encyclopedic knowledge, quick recall and attention to detail made him indeed a Go to guy And his Christmas baking can never ever be matched!

Rest in Peace Mike
