Thinking of you all at this sad and emotional time. I will always remember Uncle Mike's twinkly smile and happy, caring nature. It was an honour and a pleasure to call such a wonderful man my Uncle (Dad's best mate from childhood).

Uncle Mike, I'm glad we caught up again recently, you spoke so proudly of your family, and I know there will be a big hole in their lives forever, but they were blessed to have you for every moment they did. Love and hugs xxoo

Mike was my ‘honourary uncle' – best friends with my father Dave Murray since they were both ‘knee high to a jam tin'.

My thoughts are with your family today – they have lost a very special person. I will always remember your gentle, wry humour and the last time we met you spoke of Tania, Michelle and Glen and their families with such pride and delight – you loved them so much.

A memory I want to share is back when you had the kiwifruit orchard, and our family came to stay for a few days. I recall the chaos of five young kids running around inside terrorizing the grown ups, then all of us being outside near the orchard on a beautiful, crisp morning. Steam rising from the vines and a hazy frost still lingering. Everything was suddenly so quiet and still – it seemed like the most perfect place on earth at that moment.

That moment is one of the most powerful and abiding memories I have – I hope you have found your moment of stillness now. I will remember you with love.
