Michael was the very best in education and personal philosophy. Those who were taught by him learned a lot to set them on lifes path. He should have been Headmaster of Mt Albert Grammar School and his friend Dr Turoa Royal advisor to education thought he was one of the best in New Zealand. He is missed by his past students.

Oh you were wonderful, Mike. I met you in the seventies when you brought Pauline and the kids for your year's exchange at the school I taught in and then in the eighties when I landed on you for a couple of weeks on a world trip. I loved NZ! In later years I followed your funeral work (I've done a bit myself). I hope your send off was as good as the ones you delivered.

I'm pleased to have had the chance of being a pupil of yours. Your energy, enthusiasm and firm but fair approach to teaching, made school, especially Social studies that much more enjoyable for me. I have always and will always admire you not only as an amazing teacher, but a shining example of the manner of person we should all aspire to be. Thank you, RIP sir.Ben.

Fond memories of those lively debates at the Auckland Geography Teachers' Association meetings. Mike's input was always very professional and respected for it's wisdom, humour and academic integrity.
Mike was also a great help to me in readjusting to the New Zealand teaching scene after an extended period overseas.
A mentor to many young teachers and an inspiration to generations of students.

Dear Pauline and family,

It was with great sadness we heard of Mike's passing. He truly touched many many hearts

We were lucky to have him as a teacher, a mentor and a friend. Sharing in the most special times of our lives as our celebrant at our wedding and at the naming ceremony of our first daughter, Isabel.

'Mr B' you will live on forever in the hearts of all that you touched.

It was with a huge sadness that we learned just today of Mike's passing. Our greatest sympathy goes to Pauline and family.
Mike was one of life's wonderful people who touched the lives of everyone he ever had anything to do with...and that was a lot of people.
He was our daughter's teacher, the celebrant at her wedding and also at her granddad's funeral.
He made the world a better place.
Our family sends you all our love at this time.

To Pauline and family our deepest sympathies and thinking of you all at this sad time. As a young teacher in the late 70s Mike was an inspiration, he offered support, advice and encouragement always with a smile. He was a true gentleman who was well liked and respected by his fellow teachers and students. During his working life and in retirement Mike did a lot for education and touched the hearts of many . R.I.P dear man with love from Irena Holland.

Dear Pauline, Oh dear - my condolences and love to you.
Mike was a lovely man who was very much a part of our local neighbourhood, along with Duster!
Neighbours, many who I hadn't realised knew him, have expressed their sadness on hearing the
news and he will certainly be remembered for his friendly, kindly manner... and he will certainly be very much missed by us all x

We had the great pleasure of Mike being the celebrant for our wedding on Waiheke Island in 2006. He was a wonderful person and lovely celebrant who filled our ceremony with love, emotion and humour - just as we'd hoped! We remember him with great fondness. Our sympathy and condolences to all of his family.

Pauline, my deepest sympathy in your loss. I will always be grateful to Mike for teaching my three ukulele chords when I was 7; for coaching me and three other boys in a vocal quartet at MAGS when I was 17; and for being a loyal, lifelong mate to my brother Don. Rest in peace now.
