Rest In Peace Merv, you were an absolute gentleman and mentor to us and many more. Your Auckland Tattoo Studio will live on in your memory as will the many people here and gone that had the privilege to be tattooed by you [us included]. You were an icon in the tattoo industry, in New Zealand and overseas and you will be sadly missed and remembered fondly. Condolences to your family and the crew at ATS. I was privileged to live down the road in Mt Roskill from Merv and June. I also got my first tatoo and many more from Merv, often called in for that cuppa and a smoke at the shop. Was always nice to catch up for a chat. I was so sad to hear the loss of such an amazing man, thoughts with you June and family.See you on the other side Merv when its my turn.

My name is Peter and I was privileged to get my first tattoo from Mervyn in 1986 when I was just 16 years old. 30 odd years later and I have both my arms fully sleeved thanks to Mervyn. He would always pack on the color as he knew I would always request color. I enjoyed having tea with him upstairs when we both needed a break during tattoo work. Mervyn, I only knew you as a tattooist, but I would like to think that since you were the first to tattoo me I will always have that special memory when you finished my first tattoo. Take care Mervyn hopefully one day we will meet again and finish our discussion about my back work that we had lined up.
