Melvin Earl Hawk, 61, of Demotte, Ind., formerly of the Normalville area, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Crown Point, Ind., after a battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 11, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Robert Hawk and Verda Nicholson Hawk Lyons. Melvin was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1966. He worked as a carman for CSX Railroad for 32 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Army, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, of Roselawn, Ind. Melvin was an instruction leader for 4-H Shooting Sports. He enjoyed target shooting with both archery and firearms. Melvin will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda D. Mays Hawk; his sons, Air Force Staff Sergeant Ryan Hawk and Army Staff Sergeant Martin Hawk and his wife, Lynn; his grandchildren, Haley and Lori Hawk and Travis Shultz; his brother, Robert "Bob" Hawk and his wife, Jenny, of Normalville; his sisters, Linda Butler and her husband, Robert, of Mt. Pleasant, and Norma Mosser and her husband, Jim, of Greensburg; and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his stepfather, Edward Lyons. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Thomas Bonomo officiating.
