Melanie WEBBER Obituary

WEBBER, Melanie Jane. - Auckland. Passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospice on April 9, aged 49, after living with cancer with courage, clarity, and her trademark humour. Beloved daughter of Helen and John Webber, and much-loved sister of Andrea and Claudia. Proud sister-in-law to Marcus and Bill, and the wildly adored "Mad Aunt M" to Ella, Max, Ted, Lucy, Sylvia and Penelope. Also remembered with love by Sue, John's partner. A passionate educator and former President of the PPTA, Melanie dedicated her life to making a difference in the lives of others, whether through the classroom, the union movement, or her fierce advocacy for equity in education. She was sharp, funny, opinionated, stylish, and utterly herself to the end. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, students, and the many lives she touched. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Purewa Cemetery, 100 St Johns Road, Meadowbank on Monday 14 April at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mercy Hospice are warmly appreciated, their care and kindness meant so much. In celebration of Melanie's colour, flair and sparkle, we invite you to wear something fabulous. A private burial will follow. Live streaming link - tinyurl.com/58wwjexk

Last year Mel, my long-time neighbour at Parklane, gave me a card and some lovely flowers. I had been a bit blue following issues with our building. Her card said: "Don't ever forget that you are awesome, and you are loved. Melanie". I return these very kind words. I will never forget how awesome you are Mel, or that you have always been loved. My thoughts are with Helen, Andrea and Claudia and their families.

So much accomplished in a short time. Mel; you touched so many lives with your infectious enthusiasm for living life and in so doing, achieving and leaving an amazing legacy for others to follow. I enjoyed my time working and protesting along side you in PPTA matters in Tamaki Makaurau. RIP Mel.
