Dear Colleen and family,
It is with deep regret that we learn of Max's passing. I worked with Max at TeKauwhata College for a short period of time in the late 70's. We lost sight of you after you left Whangaparoa Road, but we never forgot you. Max was an amazing man with an amazing woman supporting him. We send our love and remembrance of a man who made everyone feel good about themselves.

Well my goodness how lucky were we to run into you both along with Jude at Brick Bay where we shared a special lunch together on the Monday before you passed away. Ill miss seeing those vivid blue eyes, that cheeky grin and of course that constant whistling when I next visit Coll.
Rest in peace lovely man

The kind and generous leader of a great group of teachers at Te Kauwhata College and a formative positive influence for many students including myself to take forward into our lives. Condolences to the family.

The Chemistry teacher who inspired me to continue in the sciences and to become a teacher. My cousin Colleen was the lucky girl who married him. David

Our thoughts are with you all. Max always stood out for us as a man of constant integrity and reliability; an example to us all. Regret unable to attend service on Wednesday.

Hard to believe Max will no longer be there when we next visit Colleen.
Uncle Max was my teacher, bus driver, friend and relative;a huge part of my upbringing in Piopio. He married Auntie Colleen and provided me with girl cousins! At last! Those Brickland boys were getting boring.
Memories of Max include every family function,Christmas, Guy Fawkes Night, summer holidays,
Grandmas bach at the Mount, weddings, parties, school functions, sports days and so many more.
He had an amazing 96 years and was admired and respected by all.
Thankyou for being such a big part of my life. Rest well Max.
Love always Marie, Grant and family.

Max was my science teacher 1959-1962 at PiopioDHS. I remember him as an engaging and fair teacher , whom the class respected. A good sportsman also, having played rugby for King Country, who actively engaged in the Teachers -v- Pupils annual rugby match. Max was the Troopers Road school bus driver, safely delivering students to and from school each day. In 1967 the Edward's chimney proudly displayed a Stork, announcing Karen's arrival.
My thoughts go out to Colleen (my standard 3 teacher) and family at this time. I'm sure past pupils will remember Max fondly as I do.
Kind regards and sincere sympathy, Bob Godward.

EDWARD, Maxwell William (Max). Born November 3, 1927. Passed away on July 11, 2024. Our giant Totara has fallen gracefully and peacefully, surrounded by his family. What a privilege to be able to call this beautiful man my Dad. You taught me what is most important in the world, he tangata, he tangata, he tangata, and for that I am eternally grateful. Loved forever by your daughter Judie, son in law Ray, and grand daughters Bridget and Fleur.
