I was deeply saddened to hear of Ian's passing which caught me unawares when I thought I'd just ring him up for a chat, only to hear his dear wife Alison tell me, that he had sadly passed away four months previous, which was quite a shock to me. I have some very fond memories of Ian when he came up north with the late Ian Smith to classify my Fortuna Jersey cattle. We cracked a few jokes and had a few laughs but most of all, I respected Ian's skill as a Jersey judge, his useful advice, and his quick eye for a good animal that he shared with Ian Smith. As the saying goes, "The grades we make, are the hands we shake". God bless you my dear friend Ian and may you Rest in Peace. My sincere condolences to Alison and the family.

To Ian's family I was very sad to learn of Ian's passing. Ian was a great partner in Pairs bowls at the then Hamilton City Bowling Club. We joined at the same time, and soon became good friends. Win, lose or draw Ian still had a smile and an encouraging comment. Rest in Peace Ian

I remember Ian & Alison well both were great to deal with when I sold their Longside Jersey Stud to a Taranaki breeder. The whole exercise went without a hitch and I especially admired Ian's integrity through the process. It was interesting that the top priced cow & the Mayfair dispersal defended from one of the Longside foundation cows in Carnmor Fern's Wendy fetching over $7000 which must have been pleasing for Ian.Ian was also the driving force with the Purebred Jersey Society @ their AGM's where Ian had many vigorous debates on his ideas of improving the image of the Purebred JerseySociety of NZ.He was a compendent judge & classifier for the society for many years & his fellow Breeders respected his decisions whether it was in the show ring or on the farm on classification day. Please accept my deepest condolences Alison in your loss Ian was a terrific guy loved by many & will be deeply missed by his Jersey friends across the country. Now Ian you will now go to your enternal rest as you have certainly earned it good and faithful servant your work on earth is done.
