Members of the Bowling Club at Waihi will miss Matty behind the Bar, the casual chat, his efficiency at keeping up with the Bar stock, let alone the strength to carry and store it in place. He always played in a bowls triples team with Neil and Eric and they were winners many times. Good times.

I grew up with Matty in Ruawai. We were in the same class right through from primers to High School. He was always a lovely guy. In fact I had a crush on him in Intermediate, but then all the girls did! I only saw him a few times since we left Ruawai in the early 70s, but he was just the same. Very charming and polite, with a fierce intellect. So sorry to hear of his passing, fond memories.
