Matthew JONES Obituary

JONES, Matthew Richard Langdon. (Dr. of Philosophy, Marine Biologist). After a long battle with cancer, Matthew passed away peacefully at Waipuna Hospice Tauranga, surrounded by the love of his family; aged 57 years. Dearly loved son of Sue and Dr Terry Jones (Papamoa). Brother of Nicola and Chris, and brother-in-law of Nicole and Matthew. Coolest Uncle Matthew of Charlie, Isobel, Laura, and Lucy. Matthews family wish to sincerely thank GP Dr Wahid, St John Ambulance, the Oncology Dept at Tauranga Hospital, and the wonderful staff at Waipuna Hospice for their loving care of Matthew. A Service to celebrate Matthew's life will be held in Elliotts Chapel on Cameron, 414 Cameron Road, Tauranga on Friday the 12th of July at 11:00am, followed by private cremation. All communication to the Jones Family, C/- Elliotts Funerals, 25 Ninth Avenue, Tauranga.

Condolence to the Jones family. Matt and I had a shared interest in fisheries science at AUT. He was always generous with his time. We were in the middle of writing a scientific article together, which when published will be dedicated to his memory.

My condolences to Matt´s family. I have fond memories of Matt during the time we shared at AUT. Apart from the science I have not forgotten him teaching me how one bowls a googly. RIP Matt. Lindsey White

Matthew's was a wise and sympathetic voice when I got my diagnosis. If there's a consolation, it's that he got that surfing trip to Fiji.
