Sending my condolences to the Family what a lovely gentleman Maté was. As children he made us laugh when he visited the vineyard and when I was older and we had Didas Food Store, Maté would come in when he wasn´t in Croatia and have a coffee and scone. We would chat about the old days and My Mum and Dad.
Rest well Maté x

I met Mate Bulog 27 years ago when I married my wife Dianne, and I felt an instant bond with him when he welcomed me into his home as though he had known me all of his life.
His enthusiasm, knowledge and excitement when discussing everything from European history, to the state of the world today, to his love of cars, made him a delightful conversationalist and I enjoyed many hours in his company when I visited New Zealand.
Mate, the love that you showed your beloved Anka and your children was an inspiration to all who knew you.
Anka, Oliveira, Jure and Peter, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was proud to be related to Mate Bulog as he was such a kind and honorable man, a man of integrity, and a man whose work ethic was second to none! Although Mate's heart remained in Croatia, he achieved a great deal of success as an accomplished builder here in New Zealand, always taking immense pride in his work and providing very comfortable lives for his wife and children.
Whenever I was invited to Mate's home he exuded great warmth, generosity and cheerfulness and there was always so much laughter and fun that my cheeks used to ache from smiling so much after an evening in his company. He was very kind to my Mother Olga and my brother Wayne, both of whom thought the world of him.
Mate and Anka epitomized all that the Croatian people are known for: ambition, hard work, loyalty, community spirit, sacrifice and love for their children and extended family.
Mate, safe journey to your beloved Croatia.

Such a wonderful man - fiercely proud of his heritage and his family and such a hard worker. I will always remember our times together and all he taught me about building as we wandered the aisles of Mitre 10 together looking for nails and bullnose! So many loving thoughts and prayers to your family Anka, Oliveira, Jure and Peter. We are saddened but happy he is at peace and will rest back home. Priscilla, Anthea and Gabriella
