WRIGHT, Dr. Mary Anthea (nee Ellis). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Mary Wright on December 19, 2021, in Toronto. Mary is survived by her loving daughters Sheryl (Ferriss, Caroline), Elaine (Philip), and Janice; and her devoted companion, James Blight. She will be missed by her grandchildren Terry, Tyler, Alexandra, Ayden (Hailey), Ashley and Damon; and great grandchildren Zoe and Freya. Born in 1934 in Wellington NZ to parents John and Anthea, Mary was the eldest of five, leaving behind her siblings Juliet, Martin, Penelope, and Clemency, plus many nieces and nephews. Having completed her undergraduate medical education at the University of Otago, Mary emigrated with her daughters to Canada in 1968. There she completed postgraduate studies at the University of Toronto (Psychiatry). She continued her studies and in 1972 began her private practice in psychotherapy followed by psychoanalysis in 1976. Mary had numerous interests beyond her medical practice. She was an accomplished artist (graduating with honours from the Ontario College of Art.) Her work has been shown in Canada, the United States, New Zealand, Italy, and Chile in 16 solo exhibitions as well as many group and juried shows. Pairing her love of art with music, Mary took up the piano later in life, achieving the highest level ,10, at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She taught herself to play bass guitar to accompany her pianist partner Jim. She sang her heart out as a soprano with the Hart House (UofT) choir. In the 1960s Mary, with her then husband Gordon, won awards in New Zealand and Australian ballroom dancing competitions. Sadly, December 19, 2021, during the second winter of the Covid-19 pandemic, the music stopped…, the singing and dancing was done, the artworks hung. Mum, Mary was an extraordinary person. We mourn our loss. Messages of condolence can be shared at https://www.
