Mary, the kindest, sweetest and loveliest person one could meet. Gone too soon and will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her. My thoughts and sympathy to Donald and family. Ax

Mary and I were beginning teachers in the same school in the 1970s. Since then we have met each other and shared a great deal in many places: London, Hong Kong, Wellington (Vic) and lately, Hanmer Springs. Mary was always her own person, thinking carefully before she spoke in her measured, articulate way. Yet, at the same time, her manner was warm, friendly and approachable. My sympathy to Don and their family in this sudden and unexpected loss. I will miss a valued friend and colleague.

Mary taught for many years at the English Language Institute, Victoria University of Wellington, and was a very warm, generous and kind colleague, always open to new ventures. She shared her love of learning with students and staff alike. Her determination to do right by her students led to her establishing a new pre-intermediate course which continues to this day. Her lively intellect and vivaciousness will be missed. Angela Joe

As the Orpheus Choir sang Verdi's Requiem on Saturday night, I was thinking of Mary.It begins 'Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine', and that is something I would wish for her, although I'd so much have preferred it if she had been there to sing that glorious music with us.

Mary, I remember the times we worked together on the EPP at VUW. I'm still looking after the special programme you developed and taking good care of the PREPPies. Long remembered. Sonia

Mary was a wonderful colleague to many of us at the English Language Institute, Victoria University of Wellington, where she taught for many years. She shared her warmth, generosity, kindness and love of learning to students and staff alike. Her determination to do right by students led to her establishing a new course for pre-intermediate level students, which continues to do this day. Mary contributed hugely to our team and we will miss her lively spirit. Angela Joe

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I worked with Mary at the English Language Institute at Victoria University. Mary was very caring, to both students and staff, and passed on lots of teaching gems to me when I was a new teacher. We regularly caught the bus home together, where I'd get a full description of the evening meal as she texted Don :-)
My sympathies to Mary's family and friends at this sad time.

An intelligent, gentle and loving woman. She will be missed by all that have had the good fortune to meet her.
