Marie SMITH Obituary

COOPER, William Rowan (Bill). Passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025 aged 85. Dearly loved husband of Wilma and beloved father of Glen, Rachel, Ian and Diana. Cherished and always supportive grandfather of Narissa, Georgia, Zac, Mia, Jonathan, Briar and Stella. His positive outlook and smile will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends and acquaintances.

What a valiant activist, what a great friend to refugees and asylum seekers and human rights generally. A stalwart of Amnesty International for decades and one who will be sadly missed. No surprises that I last caught up with Marie at a vigil for Gaza - as resolute as ever in being on the right and rights side of history. Rest easy Marie. Condolences to the Smith whanau for the loss of a wahine toa and matriarch.
