Margaret MAHER Obituary

Sister Margaret was related to my family through the O'Halloran line. She was a real connection to Timothy and Ellen O'Halloran, who emigrated to New Zealand from Limerick in Ireland. Margaret was their youngest child, Ellen died at her birth. Sister Margaret was named after her Grandmother. My Grandmother was Mary, Margaret's older sister, and my father Thomas Hughes was Mary's son.
I phoned Sister Margaret several months ago from my home near Edinburgh in Scotland. Once we got the difficult issue of explaining who I was in connection to her, we had a wonderful chat and I felt extremely privileged to have made that connection. She remembered my parents calling on hers on their honeymoon at the end of the war, and said they were such a beautiful couple.
Although we never met, I had intended to spend time with her on my next visit home, but it was not to be. Rest in peace lovely lady.
