It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Shirley Bailey. She died on September 28th, 201 at Hogarth Riverview Manor; her home for the past year. Mom was 81 years old. We want to thank the team at Hogarth Riverview Manor who became a second family to her. Mom came from a close knit family of 7 children. She was the baby of the Corbett family. Her Dad; John Corbett, a veteran was handicapped and it fell upon Grandma Corbett to support the family. She did so by working as a cleaner at night. My mother said she had no idea when her mother slept. My mother had fond memories of living in a series of rental properties in the Ogden area and of wonderful friends and pets growing up. Mom was predeceased by her parents (Rose and John), brothers (Jack, Ed, Gordon, George ), sister (Mary), niece (Jackie) and son (Bradford). She is survived by her sister Mae Lecocq. She is also survived by the love of her life, husband Bill Bailey. After a brief career in the Grain Exchange; she stayed home and cared for her two daughters, Terri (Jack) Gurney and Billi (Doug) Puttkemery. When were we teenagers Mom went back to work at Town and Country and became an assistant manager. She got to exercise her love of fashion and we benefited with some of the most gorgeous clothes in Thunder Bay. Mom loved the Town and Country girls and they got together many years after the store closed. Mom loved being a grandmother and her happiest moments were spent at the camp at East Green Bay with her family. She will be sadly missed by grandchildren Carli Gurney (Ardy), Alexa (Kegan) Harris, Kaitlyn (Trevor) Thorpe and Cole Puttkemery (Meghan). Mom loved her church family at St. Thomas Anglican Church. She also loved the movies and was a avid readers of biographies. She died without sharing some of her best recipes... we teased her and told her she was like the Mom on the TV Show Everyone Loves Raymond. You will be missed Mom. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will he held on Tuesday, October 4th at 1:00pm at St. Thomas Church.

Uncle Bill, Terry and Billi:
So sorry to have read in the paper that Auntie Shirley has passed on. I remember back to when we were kids, riding our bikes to your house for a visit with Auntie Shirley. Auntie Shirley was always so nice to us kids. I still remember when we would see the fireplace burning. Fond memories of days gone by. Our thoughts are with you and the girls - Jackie Corbett & Wayne Nett

Dear Bill, Terri & Billi
I just learned of Aunt Shirley's passing. I want to offer my condolences and tell you how special she was to me in my youth. As kids we were either climbing Mt McKay, chasing pigeons at the elevators or fishing in the river. My walk home took me right passed your Bailey Ave home. I would knock on the door to say hello and ask for a glass of water knowing Aunt Shirley would never give me just a glass of water. My thirst quenched and my belly full I would then head on home. Great memories I'll miss her.
