In 1960 Margaret and Kevin came to our farm at Okoroire on their honeymoon.
My Dad was Ralph Yardley..a cousin of Ray Webb...and brother to Ron Yardley from Opotiki.
Time went by and In 1972, I was at Waikato University as a young student and ventured to a student pub and ran into Margaret and Kevin.
They were here in Hamilton for the Field Days.
Such a coincidence.
Kevin was a Watties farm manager at the time and he asked we if I would like some holiday work over the Christmas period in Gisborne.
Yes..I accepted and on Christmas eve 1972,I arrived in Gisborne to take up lodgings at Kevin and Margaret's home.
I called Margaret "Margie"..she was so caring towards me..made my breakfast each morning..just a loving person...just like a "Mum" to me.
My work on the Watties block was hard..twelve hours a day in the hot sun..Kevin gave a pair of clippers and a cushion and sent me off to "skirt" 5,000 tangelo trees..water bottle too.
I am so grateful for the hospitality Margaret and Kevin extended to me..I shall never forget this.
God Bless you "Margie"..rest well...It's been many years ago..but you have not been forgotten..
