LAWRENCE, Maree. 1939-2024 Sculptor Dip Fine Arts (Hons). Maree's early years were spent in Waihi where Maree is now best known for her life size bronze figure of the Miner in the centre of Waihi Township. Maree has another life size bronze work of two figures in Mahara Place, Waikanae. Maree's keen interest in the human form has been the main theme of her work. Her feel for the human form and a desire to record human experiences combined with her unique realism style has allowed her to create a large body of work in Bronze and Ceramic, held in NZ and overseas collections To have talent is one thing to use it is another; Maree had true Talent and used it to powerful effect. Many thousands of locals and tourists have had their photo taken posing beside the sculpture of the Miner. Maree loved life and her delight in the human figure from first born to hardened worker has given us a glimpse into the human spirit and its many expressions. As one of her sculpture friends remarked Maree was a steadfast friend. As her husband, Maree was my soul mate for 65 years. In this long life together as well as warmth and affection Maree often gave support to my own art career. Maree will be missed beyond what words can convey. Maree is survived by her husband, Malcolm Warr and sons Myron, Marcus, Lawrence, Garth, and George, Warr Love from us all, thank you for giving us all such a wonderful life. Malcolm Warr 07-11-2024
