Brother Marcel/Cousin Frank was a great friend (and relative) of the O'Brien family--a voice of reason, a source of beneficence and calm, a gracious and always good humoured soul. With various members of the Hall, O'Brien and Glynn family, Frankie was a member of the local (self-styled and 100% independent) chapter of the 'Sinn Feain'--a spirited gathering of the Irish diaspora, usually convened around lunchtime, mid-week, in a Mission Bay restaurant--agreeable circumstances in which to mull over the state of the world and related matters. Rest in peace, Cousin Frankie, with much love from the O'Briens. Godspeed you across the Broad Majestic Shannon...

Marcel was for many years a highly regarded member of the Rotary Club of Auckland City West. At Marcel“s instigation the club was involved in several successful aid projects throughout the Pacific.
Marcel will be greatly missed.

RIP Br Marcel. You were such an ardent supporter of the SHC Music Dept and our Music boys. Your smile, twinkly eyes, and genuine joy in living always made it a pleasure to be around you. We were so excited and proud when the Senior Band won Gold at KBB playing your piece, "Marcel" by your dear friend Bernie Allen. The music really captured your youthful spirit. Thank you for your friendship. Arohanui.

A truly remarkable man and one I will never forget. He taught me at St Paul's College from 1968 and gave me an appreciation of words, poetry, books and newspapers and history. A truly kind and generous person who always treated his pupils with respect and fostered their learning by his own interest in the subjects he taught and the insights to the world and life that he provided. Rest in Peace Brother Marcel.
