To Mansell´s family like to offer my condolences on the passing of Mansell.
Mansell was my Manager many years ago at Waharoa. He was always supportive and beyond that simply one of life´s characters. One memory I have was coming out of initial job interview with Mansell and telling my wife Katrina that work:life balance sounded good as Mgrs played tennis at 5 each Wed. I made the mistake of assuming this was 5.00pm - no such luck - we would meet at 5.00am each Wed - often having to wait awhile for pea soup Waikato fog to lift. Early rise aside had a lot of great conversations with Mansell on these occasions and the odd half decent tennis shot.
As a Mgr Mansell taught me a life lesson I´ve always endeavoured to emulate in that he always acknowledged his team ( regardless of seniority ) when walking around the Site - he engaged in a warm and genuine manner. Arguably his ability and desire to connect with people was his core strength.
In Mansell´s latter career I met him socially in his capacity as host at corporate rugby events. He was the consummate host and despite often being considerably older than his guests was typically "the last man standing".
Rest In Peace Mansell.
