Linda GRAY BRETT Obituary

GRAY BRETT, Linda Christine. 1949-2025. After a long stoic battle, our formidable highland lassie succumbed to illness and passed peacefully at home (20th July) surrounded by family and whanau. Linda will be sorely missed by her husband Graeme, their children Solomon, Georgina, Elspeth and their partners and children; Charyoung and Alexander, Shaune, Max and Phoenix, and her cherished sister Sue and lifelong friend Janet. A devoted teacher and advocator for the Arts - Linda was so proud of her long teaching tenure with Parnell District Primary School - but it was Linda's last five years before retirement that she held what she considered her dream job - a Teacher Librarian, specialising in literacy. Never to be forgotten, never to be replaced. A celebration of Linda's life will be held on Friday 1st August at 1pm at West Lynn Gardens. Aroha Funerals 09 527 0266

Linda was my first positive teacher-support at Parnell District School upon joining the Staff there. She was fiercely devoted to her career, the motivation of literacy in all pupils and viewed our professional roles with dynamic intensity. She was a dear friend, compassionate and dedicated to the potential of all individuals. She will be remembered with gratitude by all who knew her.

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Linda, a valued and long-serving colleague and member of the Parnell District School community. Over the years, Linda contributed in many roles, including as a classroom teacher and teacher-librarian. She was a passionate advocate for literature, inspiring a love of reading in countless students. Her enthusiasm for books was matched only by her pride in her Scottish heritage.
Linda will be remembered with respect and appreciation. Her legacy lives on in the annually awarded Gray Brett Writing Cup, a tribute to her commitment to nurturing young writers.
