Seven of us met up in Waiouru Camp in January 1958 as the Kiwi contingent to travel to Canberra and join the RMC Duntroon class of 58-61. Laurie ("Pills") was our southern most member from Otago and brought with him a distinctive Scottish burr. He was a regular member of the Rugby First XV and was respected and admired by his fellow classmates. All Seven of us graduated in 1961 and Pills went on to complete a distinguished military career before becoming an extremely successful businessman and community leader. He will be missed by his family and friends as well as those who served with him. Vale Pills. Bill Middleton, Santa Barbara, USA.

Laurie was a wonderful entrepreneur who I met at MIRINZ when he sought some advice on developing a meat product. We also linked up in Japan. A great, honest, straightforward guy to work with. I´m sorry to read of his passing. Condolences to his family.

As a fellow Duntroon cadet, I was run over by Laurie on the Rugby field - he was a steamrolling centre. He was an impeccable organiser of class reunions in NZ. I particularly remember his concern for me a few years ago when I was about to undergo surgery for cancer, and his more recent support for the writing and publishing our RMC class history. Vale Laurie. Russ Bielenberg, Canberra.
