HAMPTON, Brother Lawrence Edward SM. On Thursday, October 29, 2015 peacefully at Ilam Lifecare, Christchurch, aged 95 years, and in the 74th year of his Religious Profession. Living in retirement with the Armstrong Village Marist community, after 40 years missionary work in the Solomon Islands. Loved son of the late Robert and Margaret Hampton. A loved brother of the late Margaret Millward, Nell Bowden, William, Babo Ransley, Peter, Leo, and Bob Hampton. ( All deceased). The Funeral Mass for Brother Lawrence will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 70 Spencer Street, Addington, Christchurch, on Wednesday, November 4, at 1.00pm, followed by burial at the Waimairi Cemetery, Grahams Road, Christchurch.A Vigil service will be held at the Church, on Tuesday, November 3, at 6.00pm John Rhind Funeral Directors FDANZ Phone 03 379 9920

My condolences to those to whom Brother Lawrence Hampton was dear. I did not know him, but my name is Lawrence (Lawrie) Hampton. I live in Hamilton, and I am a retired Presbyterian minister, aged 89. I had not known that there was another Lawrence Hampton in the country. I notice that the name "Robert" occurs twice in your Lawrence's death notice. My grandfather and great-grandfather were both named Robert Hampton. Clearly, not the same people, but I wonder if it indicates that we both belonged to an original family in which the name "Robert" was significant. My great-grandfather emigrated to New Zealand from County Armagh, Northern Ireland, leaving in November 1864 in the clipper ship "Ganges."
Had I been in Christchurch tomorrow (4 November) I think I would have attended your "Uncle Lawrie's" service. But I shan't be there until next week!
