Really sorry and disappointed that I was unable to attend Laurie´s funeral service as I was not aware of his passing until after the service had taken place.
I have very fond memories of a special school friend at Northland College.
Deepest condolences to Gaye and family.

Was shocked to read of your passing Laurie. You worked alongside Dad (John Hayter) through the milk station, brother Mark was one of your many delivery persons' & a great supporter of Kaikohe.

Our dearest Laurie... my heart ached hearing of your passing. I had no words as I was completely shocked.
You were an honest, humble man and a pillar of our community.
You treated me with the same respect and care as you would a daughter, and I will be forever grateful.
Every Monday, I would enjoy hearing you answer with "Hey bro" or "Hey Boss" and your response to "How are you Laurie?"...majority of the time would be "Out-standing in my field". To which you were, literally and physically. Otherwise you would tell me what accident or incident you've just had. You would then proceed to offer me new health breakthroughs to try, in hope that it would help or cure my ailments.
I will miss our weekly conversations Laurie.
Rest easy and know that you achieved so much in your lifetime. You are well respected and will always be remembered.
To the loves of Laurie's life... Gaye and whanau...our deepest condolences, strength, thoughts and love to you all. Thank you for sharing this time with all of us

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Laurie. To Gaye and family my deepest condolences. The Byers family including Jack and Phyllis were always neighbors and Laurie epitomized what what being neighborly was. He was always available in the hour and he was an ever present steady and talented man. His many virtues I would extol with all present on Thursday if I could attend. Sadly I cant but I shall remember you Laurie not only tomorrow but for all my time. Rest easy now. Paul Zderich Australia

Kia ora Gaye, Lisa and whanau, I'd like to share a memory from the old days when I was a kid growing up in Ohaeawai and Laurie was our milk deliverer, we used to call him "Tea Cuppa". Konohi Maihi used to help him and he was and still is known as "Maori Boy". Laurie was a lovely man with a great sense of humour. I send my heartfelt condolences to you all x

A humble GENTLEMAN is how I would describe Laurie.
He could be cheeky and witty. A few times he would come into Northpoint a bit worse for wear after getting tangled in the fence or an accident with one of the stock or hurting himself somewhere on the farm. One day he came in to Northpoint and said to me "I have this huge bruise". Then proceeded to pull his trouses down and show me the bruise on his hip. I was very polite and told him it looked painful. Thank goodness nobody came in as we were in the reception area.
We have so much respect for Laurie. Our deepest condolences and aroha to Gaye and whanau, God Bless each and every one of you.

Thank you to the Byers whanau for sharing Laurie with us all. His legendary work with and for our Kaikohe Community and outlying areas we celebrate, honour and will remember for a long time. Personally while Laurie has continued to be a support for Kaikohe East School for a very long time, most recently providing a superior van service for our Special Rights children, ensuring that their needs are met, I will remember him most of all as a neighbour on Mangakahia Road, councillor, deputy FNDC Mayor and our very special milkman with Kanohi Mahi. His huge committment, passion and work will be greatly missed. Aroha tino nui ki a koe Gaye me to whanau hoki.

Gaye I know how difficult it is to lose your soulmate, and while memories last forever,it never compensates for losing your loving mate.
