Ken McNatty was a friend and colleague who I met first when visiting his lab in 1988. We shared common interests in the reproductive biology of sheep and other species and it was his work (Henderson and McNatty) that initially discussed relationships between prostaglandins F and E with respect to maintenance of the corpus luteum. I had many great interactions with Ken over the years at meetings of the Society for the Study of Reproduction, International Conferences on Ruminant Reproduction and International Conference on Animal Reproduction. I have great respect for him as a person and as a scientist. My condolences to his family foremost, and to him many friends. He will definitely be missed by all of us.

I met Ken in Spain, in the first two stops in the Camino he was doing, outstanding good person excellent human being,. I was thrilled having conversations with him about almost anything, was always opened generously to talk with all his kindness, admirable knowledge, patience, respect and wisdom, I could notice how loving and caring he was for his wife and family., I will never forget you my friend.

Ken was my cousin. My grandmother was his great aunt. Our paths rarely crossed but our uncle Frank used to keep us informed. A quarter of my genetic endowment is McNatty. I have admired Ken's achievments from afar and mourn his passing. My concolences to his immediate family. May he rest in peace and rise in Glory. John Bonifant.

This is a message of condolence to Rosemary, Ken's wife, and all of his family even though I never knew any of them. It's 56 years since I last saw Ken when I shared a chemistry research laboratory at Victoria University with him and other graduate students but I still have the fondest memories of his friendship. His accounts of mountaineering and what made it so special to him are still so clear in my mind. We shared working in a wonderfully dedicated environment contributed to by excellent academic staff and motivated students, but there was equally time to relax as with lunchtime tennis down at Kelburn Park. Memorable was the occasion of a massive explosion which destroyed our lab when only Ken was present. Tough as he was, no doubt in part from the challenge and risks of mountaineering, he survived that with apparent aplomb even though he did later own up to a subsequent nightmares. His spectacular research career since in a highly innovative and challenging field that many would have shied away doubtless represented that ongoing appeal of a challenge.
