Dear Bette, it's with great sadness we heard of Keith's passing tonight. We hadn't heard from any of the lads about it. Our condolences to you, young Keith and Simone. And your two grandkid's. We have such brilliant memories of you all over the many years at East Coast Bays. Of the many get togethers and trips away with the Golden Oldies. You are in our thoughts. With much love from Eddie, Joan, Susan, Scott. xxx

On behalf of the Cole family, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Nelson family on their loss. Evan and I used to knock around with Keith junior and Glynn and Dai Evans when we were teenagers and when I found out Keith Nelson was Keith juniors dad, I was truly impressed. My younger brother and I grew up at Newmarket Park, as the old man dragged us along to watch every national league game every weekend, so I got to see Keith play quite a bit. He was the best striker I ever saw in the national league, and as we were supporting North Shore it was a love hate relationship, but I couldn't help but admire how good he was. Our dad loved how he played, stuff of legend.
I got to know Keith a bit when I became an electrician, I'd bump into him regularly at the wholesalers. He was always friendly and humble when I would remind of how good a footballer he was, a true gentleman.
Warmest regards
Grahame, Malcom, Evan and the late Jim, Gerry and Duncan Cole.

On behalf of the Cole family I would like to pass on our deepest condolences to the Nelson family. I used to knock around a bit with Keith junior and Glynn and Dai Evans when we were teenagers, but I grew up at Newmarket Park, back in the day when the old man would drag us along to watch every national league game every weekend.
Keith Nelson was the best striker I ever saw playing in the national league. I got to know him in later years as we were both electricians, a lovely man and very humble. Truly shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.
Grahame, Evan and Malcolm Cole, and also the late Jim, Gerry and Duncan.

Hello Bette,
Its a long time since we last saw each other, and only a little less since Keith helped me with various electrical tasks. I'm sad that I'm only now making contact with you after Keith has passed rather than enjoy your/his company and especially sense of humour. Despite our considerable difference in football skills Keith always made me feel like I was as good as anyone else - and when relaxing after games we had a wonderful relationship which included considerable humour and enjoyment. I even enjoyed after match functions after a few beers when even I (born in Scotland) couldn't understand a word he was saying.
Being part of that Mt Wellington group in the 70's ranks as one of the highlights of my days on this planet - and Keith was a major contributor to that. He even allowed me to win a Chatham Cup medal after he was sent off the previous week in Dunedin - which gave Houghton no choice but to play me (he'd told me I wouldn't be playing after being sent off myself in the previous years final) - there was no one else!
I'm sorry to hear that Keith was unwell. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Whilst this is a very difficult time for you all I trust that in time you'll be able to celebrate the many achievements in his life.
I am proud to have known Keith and shared some of those achievements with him.
Kindest Regards
Stew (Carruthers)

On behalf of the late Arthur and Marie Parker, we send our condolences to the Nelson family after the sad passing of Keith.
Mum and Dad always spoke fondly of Keith, whether it was on the football field or off it.
