I remember Karen very fondly. She was always a kind and good friend to me. We lost touch over the years unfortunately. My sincere condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. Strength and love to you all.

Karen was my dear friend at Wanganui High School. She left school a year earlier than me and went to teachers' training college at Palmerston North. We kept in touch for a little while after school, but lost touch when she married Bill, although we did see each other from time to time until about a year or so after Chris was born. We found each other again briefly when we both lived in Wellington - she was working for the Railways then. But then I moved to Lower Hutt and we lost touch again, and then later I heard she had moved to Auckland, and was working in real estate there. I always meant to try to find her when I was passing through Auckland, but after she left Wellington I never saw her again.
I loved Karen. She kind of 'adopted' me at High School - she was a pretty popular girl and I didn't feel I fitted in to that category. But she was a generous and kind-hearted friend. She taught me how to sew and how to buy fabric remnants for sewing, as my family was not well off.
It's hard to think that she has gone, at only 73. So sad.
