Judith HALE Obituary

HALE, Judith Ann (Judy). Aged 85 years, passed away peacefully on 16 October. Much loved wife of the late Barry Hale. Dearly loved mother of Shelley, Denny and Christine, Mandy and Graham. Proud grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of three. A service to celebrate Judy's life will be held at St Mary on the Hill, Pokeno, on Thursday 23 October at 11:00am, followed by refreshments at LaValla Estate, Tuakau. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team at Aparangi Residential Care. Your kindness and outstanding care for Mum - and for us all - has been greatly appreciated.

Thank you Judy for the fabulous times you gave us all with the generosity of allowing Pony Club events to take place on your farm. Your events were always the pinnacle of the season and winning there was top of the pops. I have very fond memories. Condolences to the family.

Sorry we can't be there to honour Judy today.
In the past I spent many hours walking with Judy, Ted and her other guide dogs and deeply admired Judy for her awareness of the world around her and her sharp memory which served her so well in her years of blindness.
An ex-teacher, Judy often addressed groups of my university students and answered their questions with clarity and skill reflecting her teaching years.

Our daughter, Nicola inherited Judy's horse, Shad, after Judy's accident. I recall that a year or two later Shad was ready to take off on the airstrip, his usual gallop area in earlier days, while Judy was riding was riding my quieter horse. "Let him go, Nic!" called Judy. Soon both horses were on the way and my heart was in my mouth. That was never repeated to my knowledge but I will never forget the joy on Judy's face that day and the bravery behind it..

I have had the greatest admiration for my dear cousin Judy as well as happy memories of the times when we were able to get together. My loving condolences to all her family and my apology that due to illness I will not be able to attend her service tomorrow. My thoughts will be with you all.

So admiring of Judy Hale and the independence and strength she showed during her years without sight. Her management of her guide dogs was top class, showing the benefit of her farming skills.
After I retired, we spent many hours together and her recall, memory and
positive attitude floored me often, not to mention the awe shown by my overseas students when they met her - at her ready awareness and recognition. Rest in Peace, Judy
