Joseph KIERNAN Obituary

KIERNAN, Joseph Considine (Con). Died peacefully at North Haven Hospice, Whangarei on Sunday 1st September 2024. Only son of the late Matthew and Irene Kiernan and brother of Marian (Long). Cherished husband and soulmate of Diane and loved stepfather of Peter and Amanda Blake, Alison Blake, Liz and Adrian Christiansen and loving Grand Con to Josh, Katherine and Charlotte. A deeply thoughtful, intelligent and talented man, Con's careers as Diocesan Priest, Director of Religious Education, then internationally recognised modern mosaic artist enhanced the lives of all who knew him. While very sadly missed, his spiritual and artistic legacies will live on through all the lives he ever touched. May he rest in peace. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St Patrick and St Joseph, Wyndham Street, Auckland at 1.30pm on Saturday 7th September. In memory of Con's contributions to vibrant mosaic artwork, please feel free to wear something colourful. A special thank you to staff at North Haven Hospice, for their exceptional care of Con during his very short time with them. You made his final journey a dignified and very comfortable one. All enquiries or communications to Davis Funeral Care.

Con was a great support in my early years of ministry. He was very gifted and not afraid to take risks. I pray he is now at peace.

Con Kiernan was my mother's first cousin of whom we got news and photographs from Australia regularly. Then at last I met him in person on two occasions in Ireland. We immediately got on and shared a most enjoyable trip to the ancestral public house - Kiernans in Carlanstown Co. Meath. More recently the photographs were of his wonderful masterpieces in mosaic. My sincere condolences to all who loved Con.
