Jonathan East Obituary

EAST, Jonathan. Passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Monday 15 August 2011 after a relatively brief illness. Adored fiance of Paige Rebecca Daigle Zinn and loved son of Christine East and the late Dr Rodney East and brother of Angela East, Elizabeth Bond and brother-in-law of Richard Bond. While his life was far too short, he made the most of it. He worked hard and played hard. He was a dedicated employee and proud recipient of many awards including the 2008 New Zealand Salesman of the Year Trophy from Mainfreight International. He would be humbled to learn that the award is to be named in his honour. He was a member of Red Beach Surf Club and relished his time as a surf boat crew member. In a few weeks, he and his beloved Paige were to be married and they were to start out on a new path. Jon lived his life well and enriched the lives of all who knew him with his thoughtfulness to others, devotion to those he loved, and his wicked sense of humour. We will miss him terribly. There will be a celebration of his life at Orakei Bay Function Centre, Orakei Bay, 231 Orakei Road, Auckland on Sunday August 21, 2011 at 12 noon. Jonathan's family wish to thank the staff of Auckland City Hospital Intensive Care Unit who were exceptional in their compassionate care of Jon during his illness.

Jonathan, we thought of you as an extra son in our family. We were there when you were born and loved getting to know you when you were in the UK. Our connection grew stronger on visits to NZ, especially meeting Paige last year. Memories of you, your family and of Paige will keep you with us. Such a tragic loss! Jon, it was a pleasure knowing you in O'Rorke & at Uni (some early morning tutorials were much more bearable with you there for company). I always enjoyed your sense of humour & easy going nature.
