RIP Prof. I am proud to have been a member of your team at Auckland Hospital many years ago. It was exciting when the new Professor of Psychiatry was appointed. John was an excellent teacher and very humane. One personal link was that his father taught mine in high school. Discovering that is an example of the personal interest John showed in the staff.
Kia kaha to Dianne and all the whanau.

RIP Sir John Werry
You took me in as a son, without judgment, with only kindness and wisdom.
A mentor, a guide, a steady presence - your legacy lives on in all you've taught us.

He gave me hope that my son would be a wonderful human being, Who is now cooking me dinner, and who makes me laugh most days. Bless you John Werry, unorthodox yet ultimately kind. Rest well.

My mentor as a mental health nurse in child youth mental health and unit manager at Campbell lodge the best psychiatrist l ever worked for and encouraged me to make a difference when l left NZ and moved to Australia l spoke out which made a difference to the service l will always remember him as a man who recognised my ability to know something without an academic backup and it was good enough for him thanks for the memories John

Worked with John for about four years in CAMHS Tauranga. He had an unbelievable work ethic and passion for the work. John let us book him back to back and never ate anything! He also showed his kindness when he saw my son and supported me in my management role. He also had a very cheeky sense of humour! Will be greatly missed and a huge loss to child and adolescent mental health services.
