John SPENCER Obituary

June 14, 1936 - December 26, 2022

John Ronald (Ron) Spencer passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Dec. 26. Beloved husband of Ellen (Leach), proud father of Sheryl, Scott (Tatiana) and Steph and even prouder grandfather of Hugh, Graham (Trina), Kiraya (Alex), Cail (Erika), Olivia and Tanoa (Ashley). Beloved brother of Myrna Hendry (Don). Predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Anne (Patton) Spencer and his niece, Julia Hendry. Remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews and friends. Born and raised in Thornton, Ontario, Ron's family was a fixture in the community. Even into old age, Ron's prowess in hockey and baseball is remembered, as is his leadership within Thornton Minor Hockey. In later years, he took up golf, not only for the sport, but for the camaraderie on and off the course. Ron, with his wife, Ellen, farmed just outside Thornton for almost fifty years. Ron was proud to be one of the first farmers in the area to experiment with the cultivation of soybean crops. A people person to his core, Ron loved to laugh and be part of gatherings of any sort. He will be dearly missed by friends and family. A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, December 30th, 2022. A private family interment at the Thornton Union Cemetery to occur in the spring. Memorial Donations may be made to the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice and are greatly appreciated by the family.
