I regret I am away from Auckland so cannot attend or offer condolences in person
When I returned in 1970 to become Foundation Professor of Psychiatry, Jack had been the Foundation Professor of physiology for at least four years. And before that He had been head of a cardiovascular physiology unit at the Greenlane Cardiac surgery unit and or secretary to the medical research council. As a result He had a very useful depth of knowledge not just about physiology but also history and politics in Auckland.
He was an influential force for good within the school especially on the need for basic sciences in the medical curriculum a matter that required some vigorous but not always successful defending in the face of counter claims of the priority of clinical teaching.
In heads of department meetings,he often spoke late but all would listen as his soft spoken words were clear and cogent. I had great respect for him in every way and sought his counsel often.
My first encounter though was in Dunedin when Jack was in his fifth year. At a university athletics meeting. Jack strode away from the field but it was the sheer grace of his running style that left me open mouthed in admiration.
A life well lived
Haere, haere, haere ra e hoa taku Jack

Dear Pat and Family, Jean was very proud of her darling brother Jack and his achievements from his athletics to medicine! We remember Jack's wonderful witty speech at Jean's 90th birthday! We also remember the love and mutual respect all the Sinclair's have for each other. We remember and are grateful for the warm welcoming hospitality of Jack and Pat in their yellow house by One Tree Hill. May Jack rest in peace welcomed especially by Jean. Love, Kathleen, Maria, Clare, Ngaire, Anne and Mary, Cenacle Community.
