John SHUTTLEWORTH Obituary

SHUTTLEWORTH, John Samuel Lawrence. Passed away doing what he loved on Tuesday 18 October 2016 at his loved Waharoa Aerodrome. Beloved husband of Nadia. Loved father and father-in-law of Amanda Houghton, Rob and Rebecca Shuttleworth, and Sam and Melanie Shuttleworth. Treasured Grandad of 12 grandchildren and 1 great- granddaughter. "I must go up to the skies again, to the white clouds and the grey; and all I ask is high launch and a chance to get away." A celebration of John's life will be held at the Waharoa Aerodrome, SH 27, Waharoa, on Saturday, 22 October 2016 at 11am. In lieu of flowers donations preferred to the Philips Search and Rescue Trust, P.O. Box 9308 Waikato Mail Centre, Hamilton, 3240, online at www.rescue.org.nz, or these may be left at the service. My thoughts are with John's family. Although I had moved from the district and lost touch, I think back to happy times with the family. From helping stack shelves and baby sitting to being entrusted to fly the Cobra. Not sure who was more nervous as John held the wing and waved me off!
I remember a true enthusiast, a great guy and I'm sure a friend to many!

John was my first boss in aviation at Matamata Aero Club. A more helpful or generous boss you could not hope to have. Always with a smile and ever understanding I owe a lot in my career to him. Whilst i am sad to hear of his passing I was pleased to know that he did so in his element, at the controls of his beloved mustang. New Zealand aviation has lost one of its true gentlemen.RIP John.
