A great tramping buddy, we spent many nights in mountain huts all over the country. The size of his pack was legendary, full of stuff that was not just for him, he was always thoughtful and helping his companions out with bits and bobs
He wasn´t the best sleeper in Mt huts and would be up making a cup of tea in the middle of the night, but thoughtfully asking if anyone else would like a cup.

John was a kind, compassionate man. He welcomed me to the family gladly, and always kept in touch.

Our love surrounds Isabel and the company of choral friends at St John's Cathedral and the Napier Civic Choir who will be saddened at John's passing. His enthusiasm and commitment was so infectious. John will be sadly missed
