Dear Karen,
You probably won't remember me,but I came to Auckland from Sussex in England in 1977-78.
I played cricket with John for Suburbs New Lynn and Auckland. As well as being a very talented cricketer he was a fine man. I am 64 like John, and I was privileged to have played with John and also Hedley Howarth. I looked up to both as role models not just for cricket but as men.
Shortly before I came back to Sussex I had lunch with you and John at your home. We ate one of those delicious meat pies. At the time I could see that you were very much a strong young couple who were deeply in love.
Just wanted to send my deep condolences and love to you and your lovely family at this very sad time.

A talented schoolboy cricketer who had the hallmarks of greatness while at Lynfield College. His progress to successful international player was a reward for his skills, diligence and determination.

Karen, I am so sad to learn of Reido's passing. We go right back to Secondary School when we first met playing cricket. I have so many fond memories of playing with and against John and of our many adventures on overseas tours. Please accept my sincere condolences.
