Growing up, I lived on the same street (Seine Rd) as the MACKLE's and was friends with Emmett. My Dad, David WOOLF ( aka - Zeke) was also a Chief in the RNZN, and I believe John and Dad would car pool sometimes. Pauline, Mum passes on her condolences, as do my sisters Debbie and Lynley.

Pauline, I have been away and just catching up on recent death notices and was saddened to read of not only John's death but Tony's as well. I used to catch up with Tony on occasion as he was friends with ums Family in Wellington. Joy was my Mum's neighbour in Northcote Point (Angela Pausina). My sympathy to you all and my thoughts and prayers go with you.

A true gentleman, kind and caring, and as a Knight of the Southern Cross, a real brothet to us. We miss him, Pauline. You were both very hospitable to me. You are both in my prayers. May he rest in peace.

We served our apprenticeship together. He carried out a very heroic act when a fellow worker cut through his arm on a dado saw, John carried him down stairs & into a car & got him to the naval hospital in quick time - RIP John (Smokey)

I will always remember John, lovingly polish the Citroen every lunchtime down at the Apprentices woodwork shop in the boatyard. There was just a hint, as I recall, of orange primer in the door panels.
Rest in peace John.
