John Krause Obituary

Krause John Lawrence, Jr., MD John Lawrence Krause, Jr., MD. Born March 5, 1936, was a highly respected surgeon and medical leader who passed away on February 4, 2026. Born in Queens, New York to John and Grace Krause, Dr. Krause developed an early interest in medicine. He attended Queen's College; graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1957 and he earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical School in Manhattan. He completed his surgical training at Columbia University and other affiliated hospitals; served two years in the United States Air Force at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas; all before completing advanced training and plastic surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Krause practiced medicine in New Jersey for many decades, earning widespread respect for both his clinical excellence and professional leadership. He served as President of the Academy of Medicine of New Jersey, President of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and President of the Society of Surgeons of New Jersey. He also held leadership roles as Chief of Surgery at Our Lady Lourdes Hospital and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Virtua Hospital. He served as President of the West Jersey Medical Society and retired from private practice in 2005. In 1963, Dr. Krause married Andrea Christine Van Nostrand of Rumson, New Jersey. They were married for 42 years and raised two children: Brendan Krause and Jonathan Krause. Andrea passed away in 1994 following a prolonged illness. John is survived by his wife of 30 years, Irene Krause; his sons, Brendan Krause and Jonathan Krause; and his stepchildren, Joyce Monger and Helen van Beuren. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jasmine Krause, Harmony Krause, Eric Monger, Melissa Krebs, Victoria Evans, Andrew van Beuren, and Archie van Beuren-as well as six great grandchildren.
