A fine gentleman always and a kind neighbor back in the the Fordyce Avenue days. Before that a friend and fellow student at St. Kentigern College. Our deepest sympathy to his mother Joan, and children Anne, John and Sarah and families.

John was a wonderful friend from the day we migrated to NZ from Australia 16 years ago. He was one of a kind, a true gentleman and a loyal friend. When the children were born he spoilt them and never forgot their birthdays and he was like an Uncle to them even when he became unwell. We will miss our discussions about everything from LGB trains to Winston Churchill. We will miss our Christmas get togethers and our lunches at the Belgian restaurant and ice creams downstairs. He will be incredibly missed and we cannot imagine what Mission Bay, or the world, will be like without him. Our sincere condolences to his dear mother, children, grandchildren and Lorraine, whom he always spoke of with pride and love. We will never find another friend quite like you. Rest in Peace, until we meet again, dear friend.

Rarely does one have the opportunity to make friends as loyal, generous of spirit and as kind of heart as my dear friend John.
You will be sorely missed as you were truely one of a kind.

It was so sad to hear of the passing of John. I first met John at the 2015 International Churchill Conference in the United Kingdom. He was a lovely man, who loved his country, and loved the Commonwealth. When I moved to Auckland for a short time for work, John took me under his wing, and introduced me to the Northern Club. I will always remember him. Rest in Peace Mate.
