Dear Irene, Adrienne, Raewyn, Claire and Scott -
so very sad to hear about John. I am thinking of you all and many memories of past times.

I do not think there could be more fitting words for John than those you chose in your notice "Kind, wise and beloved".

Just a lovely and clever man.

I would like to pay a tribute to an exceptional man, the late Professor John Gavin.

I have known John, as so many of us have, as a teacher of oral biology and physiology, and as a research scientist and a research administrator.

He was an inspirational teacher and tutor.

As Chairman of Research for the New Zealand Dental Association Research Foundation, he held that office with vision and sensitivity, for many years.

John's influence in both the medical and dental worlds has been inspirational and formative.
