Dear Margaret and family. I have just only recently learnt of the demise of Prof Edwards. My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to you and family friends and colleagues. John taught me how to do Oral Surgery properly! He was a consummate professional and very thorough. It was an absolute pleasure assisting him in many and various Surgical procedures in Theatre at Otago Hospital and to have him as one of my undergraduate teachers, then later Clinical Supervisor during my MDS Oral Surgery post grad training programme upon my return to my Alma Mater - Dental School in Dunedin. It was a privilege for me and so many cohorts of Dental students to be trained by Prof Edwards. He had unsurpassed mental alacrity and agility- also a mean squash player as most of us who played with him would fondly recall. A surgeon with very steady hands and scholarly attitude. Thank you Prof Edwards.

Dear Margaret and family, Please accept my deepest condolences. John was deeply respected in the specialty for his wisdom, kind counselling, devotion to the profession, enthusiasm for life and words of encouragement. If you had a problem professionally or personally you could always count on John for good advice which he always freely gave. There was no one in the specialty in New Zealand whose opinion was more valued. He was always warm, of a good humour and was always available. He will be very sadly missed. My sincere sympathy, Neil
